The
Social Emancipator Dr Giscard Norris Stanley FNIM @ 54
Social emancipators are
the ones who have the conscience of progressive social transformation , those who
are not afraid to roar the tempest of the status quo and check the social
injustices in societies. Social emancipation is rather an urgent need for every
society than a usual step-by step solutionization of societal needs either
pragmatic or infusive; nonetheless it must be that it relies on the shoulders
of a fearless personality who is never in doubt of his/her God giving grace to
stand in the gap for the people.
All his life he chooses
to identify with human course that liberates both the mind and the soul. “No need to worry about anything if everyone
would get their minds liberated from ignorance and sentiments.” Said Dr Giscard.
Norris believes that
social transformation is only possible if youths are properly educated and
empowered. That is why over the years he has dedicated greater part of his life
and resources in supporting youths’ education and empowerment. He has
singlehandedly sponsored some dozens of youths to acquire their bachelor’s
degrees and some post graduate degrees. Dr. Norris has also dedicated so much
resource into supporting entrepreneurial development of youths in Adamawa State
and even outside the state. Some of the beneficiaries of is benevolence are now
well placed in their chosen careers and endeavours.
When he took over the
comatose Adamawa Homes and Savings, many thought it was impossible to revive
it, but Norris stunned everyone by resuscitating the only Mortgage financial institution
in the State and he gave it a facelift. To show his kind person and his
reverence for sacred places, among the first assignments in the premises of the
Adamawa Homes and Savings was the renovation of the Mosque that stood conspicuously
at the entrance of the premises. As a non-Muslim he did not allow any sentiment
of religious difference to blind him from doing what he considered a priority before
venturing into the monumental renovation and rehabilitation of the dilapidating
structures.
With the coming of this
liberator the entire work environment was illuminated, spark of life came to
Adamawa Homes and Savings, Staff dressing, office work pace and approach to
business changed radically. He spearheaded staff capacity development, rejigged
the structure and set the focus of the bank back on track based on founding objectives.
