Expert calls for aligning local initiatives to global goals

A Right Based Approach advocate and coordinating officer of the shadow report of Universal Periodic Review UPR on Human Right violations Mr Felix Samari has called on the wives of 21 Local Government chairmen of Adamawa State to found local initiatives and align it with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mr Samari who is also the communications officer of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria said this at the Government House Doughire Yola where he made a presentation to the wife of the governor, some commissioners and the wives of the chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas on the  topic "aligning local initiatives to the global goals"

The resource person introduced the participants at the meeting to the 17 global goals and how local initiatives can be connected to each SDG.

Taking the Fresh Air Prolife Empowerment Foundation of the wife of the governor as an example, Samari said the SDGs will best be implemented if the local communities have their own initiatives according to their prevailing needs and challenges.

He called on the government to support local initiatives and give women groups the needed boost to provide solutions to problems around them.
